Palazzo d’Ayala is one of Taranto’s most remarkable buildings in terms of its size and architectural quality as well as its clear historical and artistic prestige, certainly among the most beautiful in the Old Town, also in relation to its location along the overlook towards the Mar Grande.
The re-functionalization project envisages the receptive-hotel destination that will ensure its complete fruition from the sea level to the roof top, a real sky lounge open to the city, but looking towards the sea. The property will therefore undergo work of static consolidation, restoration and integral recovery, with the aim of converting it back into a prestigious accommodation facility, flanked by additional services for public use related to the cultural enjoyment of the City.
The unique characteristic of a widespread presence of highly decorated wooden ceilings naturally led us to the choice of restoring the rooms to their original spatiality and not compromising it with fragmentations of space necessary for the hotel function. Therefore, we went for the realization of a small number of large, suite-like rooms with a square footage varying between 30 and 50sqm. The functional layout distributes 5 rooms on the second floor and 11 on the second floor for a total of 16 rooms. The objective of the Palace’s re-functionalization is on the one hand to enhance the peculiarities of its interior spaces, and on the other hand to “tie” their quality to that of the evocative view toward the sea, bringing the “exteriors” inside the rooms and combining the instances of restoration with those of new use.
