Architectural, structural and facilities project: Gnosis Progetti

After the first project realised for the Gemini Centre, the fitting out of a
new building
next door was commissioned.
In this second case, it is a matter of ‘adapting’ an existing building, which was constructed immediately after the 1980 earthquake and was originally intended as civil defence headquarters.
It is a simple volume with no central pillars made of prefabricated concrete panels mounted on a reinforced concrete frame structure. The idea proposed to the client was to cover the rigid building with a second skin of
coloured glass panels
surmounted by a slender roof of white painted fibre cement panels.
It is an obvious reference to Oscar Niemeyer’s formal research in terms of
lightness and purity of form.
The centre houses a laboratory for radiological analyses and investigations.
A basement level has been excavated throughout the complex to complete the healthcare facilities.
