Within the volume of the rectory and lapidary (a ruin preserved as a testimony to the past), a new building has been erected, characterised by modern,
linear technologies and materials
, respecting the reading of the stratification and importance of the pre-existing buildings.
This space houses a rectory house, the parish offices, the lapidary and the new bell tower.
Characteristic is the bell tower: in order to obtain the best visual impact and to enter into a
dialectical relationship
with the monument, it seemed appropriate to erect a bell tower morphologically close to the tradition of classic bell structures, with materials characterising the modern language, but in keeping with the “skin” of the rectory-lapidarium.
The bell tower was designed with Prof. Arch. Ing. Marco Dezzi Bardeschi. A wall covering consisting of a perimeter wall with terracotta sunbreakers with sandblasted surfaces and impasto colours, such as Neapolitan terracotta, was chosen to provide sun protection and good thermal insulation for the building.
