By regaining its natural outlet to the sea, Pozzuoli returns to being a center of comparison and exchange between Campania’s productivity and the Mediterranean, a privileged interlocutor for international trade, a place of tourist reception and a center of culture. The shared objective is to create a real activity hub that favors the strengthening and development of four key sectors for the economy and life of this territory: tourism, commerce, free time, individual well-being and sport. From this perspective, the redevelopment project of the former Sofer area constitutes a unique opportunity for Pozzuoli.

For the first time in the history of the city, a large area of the seafront is affected by an intervention that aims to reconnect it to the urban fabric, returning it to the enjoyment of the citizens of Pozzuoli. The project aims to create a new public space open to the city, which by merging with the existing and inserting itself into the broader design of the general master plan, becomes a generator of new destinations. In this way, a long ribbon of equipped greenery is offered to public life, conceived as an element of reconnection of the coastal strip to the entire city and a large area dedicated to multiple activities, sources of new life for the entire Puteolano district.
The fundamental elements of the project are:

– create a public space of high environmental quality and at the same time an example of excellence;
– relate to the testimonies of the past recoverable in the area and with the historic center itself, to merge the new architecture with the historical pre-existences;
– generate a space teeming with life through a multiplicity of functions and attractions. The theme of greenery and public spaces represents a dominant motif in the genesis of the project, an integrating and unifying element, declined in different design hypotheses.
In this sense, we want to create a large equipped park along the sea front, accessible on foot directly from the city center, which winds along the entire coastal strip of the area, within which there are three urban squares and small catering businesses such as kiosks and bars, aimed at giving life to the surrounding space and promoting walking along the seafront. The area is pedestrian and cycle-friendly.

To facilitate vehicle access, the existing Via Fasano is doubled with a large road inside the lot that then continues in a tunnel towards Arco Felice, large parking lots are created, some of which are at ground level in well-defined areas and mostly covered.
The task of harmoniously connecting, of merging the different parts with the different intended uses, is undoubtedly entrusted to the large equipped green park, a long green ribbon that unfolds, parallel to the sea, slightly higher than it and that makes it possible to see one of the most fascinating panoramas in the world, the one visible from the Gulf of Pozzuoli. As has been said, the heights of the new buildings follow those of the pre-existing warehouses, some of which have been returned to a new function. In this way, over 130,000 square meters of public spaces and equipped greenery are returned to the city. In the new design configuration, in fact, the built surfaces constitute 25% of the entire area. The role of totemic element of the entire intervention in relation to the city and the sea is not vertical, but horizontal and is the large equipped park. Among the contents that will further qualify the project, the study for the use of eco-compatible materials and technologies and the adoption of renewable energy sources will have particular importance.
