Eav Porta Nolana station

The project involves interventions for the modernization and refunctionalization of the Porta Nolana railway station in Naples owned by the Volturno Autonomous Body. The Porta Nolana station represents not only the terminal point of the Circumvesuviana line, but also the main headquarters of the management and operational offices of the Volturno Autonomous Body.

The project concerns the refunctionalization of the Station by virtue of the future transformation scenarios of the Neapolitan railway nodes which envisage the configuration of the EAV station in Piazza Garibaldi as a truly new terminal for transport flows given the direct connection with the Station Central and the new main destination of Porta Nolana Station as the operational and management headquarters of the Eav offices.

The works planned for the Porta Nolana station therefore pursue a dual objective: on the one hand to carry out the functional conversion to the prevalent use of offices and the overcoming of architectural barriers in compliance with the technical-urban planning regulations in force as well as the Minimum Environmental Criteria and the fundamental principles of energy efficiency; on the other, carrying out a real “restoration of the modern” intervention, starting from the awareness of the value of the work designed by the architects De Luca and Marseille in the 1970s through a systematic set of actions aimed at the restoration of the exposed concrete surfaces and the liberation of the building from the additions and additions carried out over the years in order to restore as much as possible the original image and make the new contemporary additions clearly distinguishable and highly compatible with the authentic artefact of great architectural, formal and structural quality.
